XiVault Beta

Version history

What changed in each published version of XiVault, newest first.

0.4.0 Beta — 2026-10-13

New

  • Shared folders on demand: when you join a shared folder you can choose "Download files only when I open them". Every file is listed at once, with nothing downloaded; a file comes when you double-click it.
  • A file being opened comes from all your devices that have it at the same time, in small blocks, each checked before it is kept. When a file you already have changes, only the changed blocks travel.
  • Search every shared folder by name, folder, type and the words inside documents (text, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OpenDocument files), in Arabic and English, also for files not on this computer.
  • Archives (zip, 7z, rar): see what is inside after fetching only the archive's index; open one file from a zip or 7z without downloading the whole archive.
  • "Keep on this computer" for a file or folder, and "Free up space". Downloaded files may use up to 5 % of the disk; past that, the files opened longest ago go back to the cloud. A file you changed here is never removed.
  • New page: Shared folders.

0.3.1 Beta — 2026-10-13

New

  • Share folders with your other computers (Windows now; Mac, Linux, Android and iPhone later): make an invitation code or QR code, type or scan it on the other computer, and compare the check number before you allow it. Works on your own private networks only (home or office network, Tailscale, ZeroTier, your VPN).
  • When you share, you choose when the code stops working (never, by default, or after 1 hour to 30 days) and whether one device or several may use it. Every device still needs your approval.
  • Notifications when a device asks to join, when you joined, and when a device starts syncing; a status bar with connected devices, speed and totals; Refresh looks for changes now and syncs.
  • Right-click a protected folder for "Share folder…" and "Properties": everything about the folder, its vault and database, its shares and its backup locations.
  • A full menu bar (File, Edit, View, Vault, Help) with keyboard shortcuts.
  • Export Key: save your vault key as a password-protected file, and import it on a new or reinstalled computer.

Fixed

  • Updates now come from download.xiguard.com, XiKey's one download home, with the old address as a fallback.

0.2.5 Beta — 2026-10-12

New

  • About page: version details, publisher, terms, privacy and the open-source licences XiVault uses.
  • Updates the same way as XiGuard: XiVault checks every 12 hours, verifies the update's digital signature and every file, installs it, and goes back to the previous version if the new one does not start. On by default; you can turn automatic updates off in Settings. The first updates arrive once XiVault is published in the signed update channel.

0.2.4 Beta — 2026-10-12 (Mac only; Windows went from 0.2.3 to 0.2.5)

New

  • "Install service" inside the app: when your vault is there but its background service is not (for example after reinstalling XiVault), the app offers to install it again. It first checks that the key backup folder you choose really holds this vault's key.
  • "Report a problem" in Settings, and anonymous error codes to help us fix problems (no files or names; you can turn it off in Settings). You see the exact text of a report before it is sent.
  • "What's new" after an update, and a link to this version history in Settings.

Fixed

  • Mac: after reinstalling, XiVault said "XiVault service is not running" and could not start it.

0.2.3 Beta — 2026-10-11

New

  • Network shares (SMB) on Windows can now use a user name and password. XiVault signs in the way Windows Explorer does, only while it works, and never stores the password in Windows.
  • FTPS servers with their own (self-signed) certificate, common on NAS boxes: XiVault shows the certificate's fingerprint and asks "Trust this server?". It then trusts exactly that certificate; a changed certificate is asked again.

Fixed

  • A network share that needs a password always showed "Cannot reach this path".
  • FTPS on a NAS showed "Sign in failed" although the password was right (the real cause was the server's certificate).
  • Clear messages instead of one general error: wrong user name or password, certificate not trusted, cannot connect, timed out, Windows already has this server open under another name.

Known issues

  • SFTP is not available on Windows yet; use FTPS (FTP over TLS).

0.2.2 Beta — 2026-10-11

New

  • XiVault for Mac: Apple Silicon (M1 to M5) and Intel, macOS 12 Monterey or later.
  • A start-up screen while the app loads.
  • First run protects your personal folders by default: Documents, Desktop, Pictures, Videos, Music and Downloads.
  • The app says "Saving paused: the disk is almost full" when the disk is too full to keep versions.

Fixed

  • The key backup was suggested inside Documents, a protected folder. It now goes in your user folder (XiVault Key Backup), and XiVault refuses a key backup inside a protected folder.
  • Choosing a folder could open several folder windows; now only one opens, in front of the app.
  • "Last saved" showed when XiVault copied the file; it now shows when you saved it, as a date and time.
  • Mac: the first start could wait on a hidden Keychain password prompt.

Known issues

  • Mac: not yet notarized by Apple. On first open, Control-click the app and choose Open.
  • Windows: SmartScreen may warn, because the Beta is signed with our own certificate, not yet a purchased one.

0.2.1 Beta — 2026-10-11

New

  • First public Beta for Windows (x64 and ARM64): versions of your documents, restore of any earlier version, backup locations (network share, FTP/FTPS, WebDAV, S3, MySQL/PostgreSQL), Arabic and English.
