XiGuard Watch — included

XiGuard Watch records what a program, service or driver does (files, network activity and child processes) and explains it. It is installed with XiGuard 0.28.3+ on Windows and macOS. Open it from the app's sidebar → Tools → XiGuard Watch, or right-click a node on the Network map → Watch this program/service. No separate download is needed.

Installation notes

Windows

Run the installer as administrator. XiGuard starts at sign-in and adds a desktop shortcut.
The .exe installs Microsoft's WebView2 runtime if it is missing (internet needed once). The .msi is for IT deployment on PCs that already have WebView2. Windows Server Core has no desktop app; use the command-line tools.
Beta installers may be unsigned or signed with XiGuard's Windows test certificate. Windows may show 'Unknown publisher'. For SmartScreen, choose More info → Run anyway. Importing a certificate is not needed for installing.
Smart App Control on some clean Windows 11 installs can block Beta builds without a 'Run anyway' option. Use a test PC or VM if testing requires turning it off; some Windows versions require a reset before it can be enabled again. Microsoft Defender stays on.

Linux

Install the .deb with sudo apt install ./<downloaded-file>.deb. Log out and in once to join the xiguard group, then open XiGuard from the applications menu or desktop launcher.
AppImage contains the app only — no background service. Use the .deb for full installation.

macOS

Download the .pkg, double-click, follow the installer: it installs the app, the background service and the login item.
Alternative: open the .dmg and double-click Install XiGuard.command (dragging the app to Applications alone installs no service).
macOS shows 'unidentified developer' for Beta builds (not yet notarized by Apple). Open the app once, then System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway. On macOS 14 and older you can also Control-click the app → Open.
The Windows test certificate does not help on a Mac. If you imported the XiGuard certificate, delete it in Keychain Access.

Automatic updates use the signed release channel. A download listed here may be available before its update is signed. Every update must pass signature verification before installation.

On first start XiGuard registers a device key with lookup.xiguard.com, without your name, e-mail or raw hardware ID. A hashed hardware anchor goes only on the identified channel to count machines and enforce licences and bans; it is never attached to anonymous file fingerprints. Anonymous fingerprint sharing is on by default, with a first-run notice and one-click Off.

Installing XiVault

Choose the package for your operating system and processor. On Windows, run the installer; on macOS, open the package and follow its instructions. Keep your existing document history when upgrading.
